Many opportunities available for accountants
Whether the economy is growing or sliding into recession, all organizations require accountants. This allows you to choose among industries. In the education field, you will find that colleges and school districts need accountants. If you are more interested in business, companies large and small need accountants. Government agencies and non-profits need accountants. There are many opportunities for people with the right training.
Why a BS degree in accounting?
A bachelor’s degree in accounting gives you the credentials you need to advance in the field. You are able to take the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam in Minnesota and earn this highly desirable certification. You will also be eligible to take the CMA exam (Certified Management Accountant). With either of these credentials, you will have more than an accounting degree. You will be an effective communicator, a team player and an employee with critical thinking skills. And because of your certification, employers will know this. Students are encouraged to apply for the Professional Certification Scholarship to defray the costs of certification exams.
Classes for our accounting bachelor’s degree
Students take 127 credits of core accounting classes. These include courses in both specialized accounting topics and a wide variety of business subjects. They also take 55 credits of general education courses; we recommend that students select microeconomics, algebra, statistics and upper level communications as part of fulfilling this requirement.
Credit for work experience and learning
Students who have been working in the accounting field may be able to turn their work experience into college credit. On the job training may also be translated to college credit. Our Education Department reviews requests for credit for work experience and prior learning. Please contact your campus dean about the process of applying for credit.
Online bachelor’s degree
We offer the BS degree online. This allows students to complete assignments, attend lectures and collaborate with other students ― all online. Students who earn college degrees online save time because they do not have to travel long distances. They also save money on gas or bus fare. Students with children often find that their child care costs are reduced because they choose online college.
