Admissions requirements
A student with any bachelor’s degree is eligible to apply to this program. If you majored in business, engineering or history, you can use that degree to obtain training that will allow you to assist in the delivery of legal services under the supervision of an attorney.
You need to supply an official undergraduate or graduate transcript, which demonstrates completion of a bachelor’s degree. International applications and transcripts will be evaluated by our education department. You also need to supply a current professional resume.
Members of national paralegal organizations
We are members of American Associate for Paralegal Education, a national organization that promotes high standards for paralegal education. AAfPE offers conferences, technical assistance and consultation services. It also acts as a forum for professional improvement in the paralegal field. We are also members of National Association of Paralegals.
Online or in-class ― it’s your choice
We try to provide class schedule options that work for as many students as possible. Students in our post baccalaureate program have the flexibility to take some classes online and others at our Richfield campus. Or they can take all paralegal certificate classes online. We want our program to work for our students.
Students receive access to Westlaw
Westlaw is the premiere online legal research tool. Students in our paralegal programs receive Westlaw passwords, which they may use at school or at home. They can take the free tutorial offered by Westlaw and earn a proficiency certificate through the tutorial. This is great credential to add to your resume.
Duties of a paralegal
Our certificate courses prepare graduates to undertake tasks such as the following:
- Conducting legal research
- Preparing summaries of research
- Evaluating case law, statutes, codes and rules
- Searching public records
- Investigating facts and prepares evidence for trial
- Performing client intake interviews
Paralegals undertake duties such as these under the supervision of an attorney.
Why complete a certificate program?
Paralegals with bachelor’s degrees generally have the best career prospects and may have more autonomy on the job than other paralegals and legal assistants. And they can get started quickly on their careers because the program requires only three quarters (nine months) of full-time study.
