Many of the students at Globe University/Minnesota School of Business (GU/MSB) Richfield are adults who have been in the workforce. Others are military students who have completed military training in a variety of fields. Still others have attended another college. Students such as these are often able to receive credit for their prior learning or work experience.
Contact our Richfield campus at 800-752-4223 to learn about credit for work experience or education. Our representative will put you in touch with people in our Education Department to get the process started.
Credit transfer at GU/MSB-Richfield
There are several ways that a student may obtain academic credit for work experience, training or previously completed college courses. Read on for more information.
Transfer of Credit. Students may receive credit for courses completed at other institutions. Each request is evaluated in light of the following:
- The educational quality of the institution from which the student transfers
- The applicability of the credit earned to the student’s current program at GU/MSB and the student’s educational goals
- The requirement that a minimum of 25 percent of total program credits must be completed at GU/MSB
The Education Department will also consider factors such as timeliness, equivalency to GU/MSB courses, changes to course content and foreign institution credit. Individual programs have additional requirements, so consult our Education Department. .
Advanced Standing Tests. Credit may be awarded for a student’s proficiency in a subject as demonstrated through performance on an advanced-standing test. The test will be administered through the Education Department. Not all courses have advanced-standing tests, so consult our Education Department before the beginning of the quarter in which the course will be required.
Prior Learning. The college will determine if study outside the traditional college classroom prior to enrollment at GU/MSB-Richfield is equivalent to our curriculum. Students can present documentation such as the following:
Professional training certificates
Licensure
Documentation of coursework completed at non-transferable institutions
- CLEP test report
- DANTES test report
- AP test report
- Documentation of SkillSoft training
Students seeking credit for prior learning complete an application and submit it with original copies of appropriate documentation to the Education Department.
Professional Work Experience. We offer qualified students credit for work experience during which the student gained occupational, supervisory or management skills. This experience must have been at increasingly rigorous levels of learning equivalent to the level of difficulty associated with college course work. Please contact your campus dean about the process of applying for credit.
Military Transfer. College credit for military service may be awarded upon review of a military transcript. Coursework will be matched to comparable GU/MSB courses. Students must request transcripts from the relevant service website; the addresses for these websites can be found at www.military.com.
